MYP Design

At AISJ, we are particularly mindful of the ever-increasing development of technology in the world around us. In seeking to produce responsible global citizens who are mindful of the consequences of technological development on the local, national and global environments and communities, the technology curriculum plays a vital role in the MYP program. We offer both digital design and product design from grades 6-10. A cyclical approach to development is utilised with five key stages of investigation, planning, design, creation and evaluation.

Digital Design

Digital Design focuses on the Design Cycle and how it can be applied to computers for the creation of products which can vary from websites, graphics, 3D modeling, movies and publishing.  The basics of the Design Cycle appear in MYP 1 and are expanded upon in the subsequent years, with the exit point having students work independently through every stage. The course is project based and inquiry oriented.  There is an emphasis on recycling and reusing materials in order to create new, useful products.

Product Design

Product Design courses draw on a number of trade skills such as metal working, jewelry making, woodworking and technical drawing to inform the creative design process.  There is an emphasis on recycling and reusing materials in order to create new, useful products.  This discipline will also utilize a professional recording studio to apply design principles to the production of sound and video products.  The Design Cycle will be utilized in all levels of MYP Product Design and the students will see the benefit of applying the design process to create a product.
