Attendance Policy

In the Elementary School we encourage the children to build up good habits of punctual and regular attendance at school. We feel that poor attendance has a detrimental effect on the standard of achievement reached by our students and is potentially damaging to continuity of routine. From their very first days at school all students, however young, should attend school promptly and regularly. Semester grades are given to all students in Primary 1 and above, and, as we need to ensure that these are fair and accurate, any student in Primary 1 and above who misses more than 10% of the school days in any term with unexcused absences will be given an ‘X’ grade for achievement.

The following reasons for absence will be accepted if a written note of absence is sent to the Homeroom Teacher at school, immediately before or after the period of absence. Such absences will count as excused absences, though students are expected to make up for any work missed on return to school. Any other absence will therefore be unexcused.
  • Student illness (when supported by parent’s note or doctor’s note for absence longer than three days
  • Home leave
  • Appropriate major religious and national holidays not already observed by the school
  • Weddings and funerals of immediate family members
  • Emergency medical and dental appointments
  • Curfews and closures
  • Visa and passport applications (where the student is required to attend)
  • Other exceptional circumstances after agreement with the Director or Elementary Principal
